HD Smart includes just six models: three core modules and three extension modules. Therefore, once one of its representatives – Dune HD Smart H1 – came from the official distributor, we immediately took a copy to the serial test. HDI Dune was a compact model called the Mini. The fact is that after the new Sigma Designs SMP8646 processor the owners of Dune HD Smart players will be able to replace the current platform SMP8642/43 more progressive.

Dune HD Smart H1 is the base model line. This is a complete file / network media player equipped with HDMI v1.3. The device is equipped with a compartment for fast (‘hot’) install / remove the hard drive form factor 3.5 “Interface SATA. Everything is managed by H1 with remote control, display information is shown on the TV. But the hard disk in D1 can only be placed permanently. The manufacturer has agreed to entrust the operation to install HDD to the user, not sealed enclosure, but it promises a nice bonus.
Dune HD Smart B1 – The player with Blu-ray drive bays instead of HDD. Accordingly, a variety of media it can play only with external drives (USB, eSATA) or over a network. In this case the player provides full compatibility with Blu-ray (including license releases; Profile 2.0 and BD Java), DVD-Video and CD.
The other three models have a series of Smart plug-ins.
Dune HD Smart HE – hard drive box with rapid recovery.
Dune HD Smart ME – optional module to install expansion cards.
Dune HD Smart BE – External drive Blu-ray which converts any smart model in a full disc player. In appearance and size of extension modules are no different from the players (except for their front panels, no buttons) and will extend its functionality. This is the most “intelligent” modular approach, whereby a series called Smart. The essence of the concept is simple: you can buy a player and connect it to up to two expansion modules, linked together, thus, the desired configuration. And initially you can buy just one player, and buy-ins as needed, or not buy at all. Either way, the user receives a hitherto unprecedented flexibility in selecting equipment. For example, if you need maximum information capacity, it is taken Dune HD Smart D1 or H1 (depending on how urgent the system fast load / eject drives), and also two modules HE.
As a result, we have the player with the ability to install three hard drives total capacity of up to 6 terabytes. But after entering the market drives the maximum capacity of 3 TB to grow up to 9 terabytes! There still could recall the fact that three HD Smart can be placed not only in number but also on each other for the sake of saving space, but we do not recommend – at least, if upper contain hard drives.
